Baby Einstein Discovery Kits Review

  Baby Einstein has recently released three new titles to their Discovery Kits that were unveiled last November.  If you haven’t heard about The Baby Einstein Discovery Kits; I’ll tell you a little about them. The Discovery kits are designed for Babies up to Two years of age and help introduce them to the beautiful world of classical music, nature, and art through ‘kits’ that contain a Baby Einstein DVD, a music CD, and either a book or Discovery cards.  The kits are a great way to engage your child in a playful way, while encouraging discovery and curiosity throughout baby’s entire day.

There are three levels of Discovery Kits:

Level 1: Experience  - these kits are about experiencing music

Level 2: Explore – these kits focus on nature, animals, the home and the outdoors

Level 3: Expression – these kits feature puppet hosts and help toddlers move and express themselves through music, colors, and words.

My son Andrew never really got the opportunity to watch any Baby Einstein Movies.  He was also over-stimulated by the TV when he was a baby; and it would throw his whole day off if he was around when the TV was on.  Now he loves his movies and ‘Little Einstein’s’ and ‘Chuggington’.  Ethan doesn’t seem to mind the TV on. he can take it or leave it really – but it certainly doesn’t mess up his day!

We recieved the Level 1 ‘Baby Lullaby’ Discovery kit.  Take your baby on a soothing journey with classical lullabies by Bach, Brahms and Mozart. Enjoy relaxing ocean waves, sweet puppet shows, and tranquil images. From fun time to rest time, Baby Lullaby is the perfect way to spend special time with your baby.Andrew *loved* the DVD. I was quite surprised really, because he likes Cars and other faster paced movies. but this DVD kept his attention full through the whole DVD. And we watched every section.  The whole time we watched he was pointing out all the pictures and learning names to the objects that were shown.

Ethan was a little sleepy – He watched pretty intently for a few minutes; but like I said, he can take it or leave it. He eventually fell asleep. I’m sure a few months from now, this will be eye candy for him :)

We have a CD player upstairs and have hardwired speakers in our living room ceiling, and therefore have been playing the music CD upstairs in rotation with a few other CD’s throughout the day.

The book is great one for Ethan. Both my boys love books.  Its just the type of books that I enjoyed having for Andrew too when he was a baby. Andrew was over-stimulated really easily with colorful objects and TV, but showing him pictures in a book with a white background was engaging enough for him, but never overloading his senses.

So. Even though Baby Einstein’s recommends these products for up to age 2. I think this could be adjusted.  While I’m sure they’re great for infants under two - I think there is a lot Andrew can learn from these movies because he never watched them while younger, and so he is so intrigued by them – and he is absorbing information faster than a sponge absorbs water! My father-In-Law has a set of Baby Einstein Tapes from when my nephew (who is now 9) was a baby. I’ll have to see about borrowing those and having Joe hook up the VHS player.
