Playtex Drop-Ins Premium Nursers Review {Giveaway Closed}

I was so excited to hear that I get to do a review and giveaway for the Playtex® Drop-Ins® Bottles.  I Nursed my first son until he was about 2 ½ months old. I had a horrible gallbladder attack and had a gallstone stuck in the pancreatic duct, causing a pretty severe case of pancreatitis requiring a week long hospital visit for the pancreas, followed by surgery to remove my gallbladder to prevent this from happening again.  It was pretty traumatic. I continued pumping (and dumping per Dr.’s orders) through my hospital stay, but had to then supplement our son with formula in the meanwhile.  He was an eater, and hated latching (to me). My son *LOVED* bottles, and then to top it off, ended up loving formula as well! We found our favorite bottle (for many reasons) was the Playtex® Drop-Ins®.  So naturally when we had our second child, I started stocking up on the bottles and bags!

I love that the Playtex® Drop-Ins® are shaped more like mom, creating less likelihood for ‘nipple confusion’. They are so easy (especially for sleep deprived parents) because they allow you to have a bottle or two laying around without worrying about how gross it’s going to be to wash that bottle! They’re great for travel in the same aspect: You put in a fresh, sterile liner for each feeding, so you’re not running into gross gas station bathrooms to ‘sterilize’ your baby’s bottle. I love the different options they have for the nipples as well. My favorite of all the nipples is the ‘cereal’ or ‘variable, Y’ shaped nipple. With this nipple, you can squeeze out all the air out of the bag, and the bag doesn’t refill itself. This is great for extra fussy babies dealing with gas and colic. When baby sucks on the nipple, he only gets as much milk as he wants - depending on how hard he sucks – creating far less gagging and choking on milk.

Playex has recently been working on discovering the real concerns that real moms have when it comes to leaving the hospital with their newborn babies in hand.  They conducted a survey across 1015 mothers, including 505 pregnant women as well as 510 mothers of infants up to 12 months old. 

The key things they found in this survey focus mostly around establishing a healthy routine: both with sleeping and feeding; as well as knowing what to do with their baby and who to seek advice from when faced with questions or concerns.  More specifically focusing on feeding: the survey found that moms are concerned if their babies are getting enough to eat, if they’re latching correctly, and general concerns with gas, colic, and spit-up issues.

With the help of Dr. Laura Jana, a renowned pediatrician and co-author of the award-winning 2^nd edition of the book Heading Home With Your Newborn: From Birth to Reality, Playtex has created a tip sheet for moms to help them stress less about bringing baby home.  These tips include things like:

Going with the Flow for Feedings: not everyone eats the same thing, same amount, at the same times each day – and babies are no exception.

Babies, Bubbles, and Burping: They suggest feeding baby before they are screaming in hunger, which often causes baby to swallow too much air – leading to gas issues. They also recommended using A bottle system like Playtex® Drop-Ins® that allows babies to suck more naturally and without extra air -similar to how they would when breastfeeding - can help make the bottle feeding experience smoother and less likely to cause gas, colic and spit up.

Preventing nipple confusion: by choosing a bottle that closely resembles the flow of milk and is designed to more closely resemble the breast.

For moms on the go: to start introducing the bottle several weeks before needing to go back to work or traveling, and finding what bottle works best for you and your baby.

Decrease stress: ask and accept all help you can get!

Thinking outside the house: Scheduling your errands after baby has eaten and been changed, to create an easier trip while out and about.

Go Pro: Consult your pediatrician, lactation consultant or other health care professionals as needed!
