The Dragon and Turtle Go on Safari - Review {Giveaway Closed}

The Dragon and the Turtle Go on Safari, by Donita K. Paul and Evangeline Denmark is a book about a very imaginative dragon and turtle, who have decided to camp out in the back yard as brave explorers, which they imagine is the base of Mount Sillymanborrow, which is also amongst a large jungle of wild safari animals and creatures of all kinds!  They talk each other through the scenarios of the sounds that they’re hearing through the night, and end up scaring themselves enough to get into their tent – and create even more fun, yet scary stories.  This story shows how friendship can get you through your fears, and that imagination, stories, and play can help ease your fears and encouraging one another to be brave.    

This book is so much fun, I love the illustrations in this book as well! It is a great story book that you can read to your children over and over again, and use all of your fun voices. My son was constantly “roaring” for the animals and could relate to the dark scary voices and realize that it was a tense moment for the dragon and turtle. (But obviously is not too scary for even a two year old)

The book has another silly story at the end ‘The Story Roger Did Not Get to Tell – The Legend of Mount Sillymanborrow’; and then the book also has on the inside back cover – another area that you can use as the parent to talk with your children about scary situations and sleep overs with friends. It has questions for you to discuss with your child to help them think through the compassion and encouragement that the dragon and turtle offered each other, and how your child should be the same towards his/her friends.
