Baby Goes Pro DVD Review {Giveaway Closed}

When champion tennis player Gigi Fernandez became a mom of twins, she was looking for a way to introduce her children to the love of sports at a young age.  Gigi realized that there was almost nothing available to help introduce sports to her kids, so she started brainstorming, and Baby Goes Pro was born! Gigi Believes that learning sports are part of the fundamental building blocks for raising happy, healthy, and confident children.

  Baby Goes Pro is a really neat DVD.  It is a movie that I would compare somewhat to the Baby Einstein’s Movies in the way that is is presenting sports. There are five sports included in this DVD: Baseball, Basketball, Golf, Tennis, and Soccer.  Instead of being too much sensory overload like many TV shows are, this movie is more plain, but still very interesting to watch.  The vivid colors, repetitive motions and the monkey Emkei (pronounced like M-K) create a visually stimulating, yet educational movie.  The music plays in the background, as Emkei the monkey introduces the sports and elite athletes use the proper techniques to demonstrate the sports equipment and the general movement of sports.  By teaching kids the correct techniques of the equipment now, it can help your child know how to use the sports equipment when presented with it in the future.  So when your child is given a golf club, they see more than just a stick or a weapon – they already have seen how to hold the club and that you’re supposed to hit the ball, so it goes into the hole.

The hardest part about this DVD is that it is really engaging.  My son sees them playing with a tennis racket, and then remembers that he has seen these rackets before and goes searching for our tennis rackets, so he can practice right along with the movie. (which maybe wouldn’t be a problem if we had more space, but right now we’re pretty cramped!) When we got to the baseball section, they were swinging, and my son was right there swinging his arms as if he was holding the bat! So over all, my son was in-and-out of this movie pretty quickly.  He doesn’t have quite the attention span yet to sit and watch it patiently. He see’s something, and then wants to go do it! (WHICH – I believe is the premise for the movie, to get them up and moving!).  So for now we play just a little bit at a time, which is really a good thing.  And when he wants to get up and play – we do just that!

  The Baby Goes Pro team is also working on developing future DVD’s that will expand from this DVD.  The Baby Goes Pro DVD is aimed at children under four years old.  Then they’re creating ‘Explore Sports’ which will cover ages 3-6, and ‘Master Sports’ which will be for everyone else.  So keep your eyes peeled for these in the future for your growing children!
